During a conversation with ET’s Ash Crossan in London while promoting the upcoming film, Momoa addressed reports suggesting that this might mark his final stint as the legendary King of Atlantis.

Expressing his sentiments, Momoa remarked, “I don’t necessarily want it to be the end… [but] I don’t think it’s really, like, a choice,” citing the intentions of James Gunn and Peter Safran, who have taken charge of future DC film projects. He mentioned their desire to “start their own new thing up.”

While acknowledging the possibility of reprising the role if the audience demands it, Momoa candidly admitted, “But right now, I’m like, ‘It’s not looking too good.’”

“I love this character, and [I would want to] play it for a long time,” Momoa added, expressing his enthusiasm for the potential direction of the character over the next decade. He emphasized that the decision ultimately rests on the audience’s reception.

Having transformed Aquaman from a mocked character into a revered hero, Momoa reflected on the challenges and joys of portraying the reluctant king. Despite uncertainties about his future as Aquaman, he expressed a desire to be part of the plans crafted by Gunn and Safran in rebuilding the DC cinematic universe.

“If there’s a place in their world for me, I would love to be a part of it,” Momoa asserted, reaffirming Warner and DC as his home.

Addressing speculation about potential roles, Momoa disclosed his fondness for the idea of playing Lobo, an interstellar mercenary, acknowledging his childhood admiration for the character.

Nevertheless, the significance of playing Aquaman was evident in Momoa’s heartfelt explanation: “If I just put it in the simplest [terms], it makes my heart smile.” He highlighted the unique opportunity to merge his passion for the oceans, his Polynesian heritage, and activism through the role, making it a deeply meaningful experience for him.
